Child prophylaxis

Child prophylaxis comprises a range of measures to maintain children’s oral and dental health and prevent dental problems such as tooth decay and gingivitis.

All measures are aimed at ensuring the healthy development of teeth and minimizing the risk of dental problems in the future, which contributes to the child’s good oral health in the long term.

These measures include:

01

Regular dental check-ups:

Children should see a dentist regularly at an early age, usually when teeth first erupt or between 6 and 12 months. Early check-ups allow for early detection and treatment of problems

02

Dental care and gum cleaning:

Children should be taught to brush their teeth properly with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. It is recommended to clean the teeth twice a day, morning and evening, to remove plaque and prevent tooth decay.

03

Fluoride application:

The dentist may recommend regular fluoride treatments to strengthen the enamel and increase its resistance to decay.

04

Nutritional counseling:

Parents should be educated about the importance of a healthy diet for dental health, including reducing sugar and cariogenic foods and promoting healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables.

05

Sealants (fissure sealants):

In some cases, sealants can be applied to the chewing surfaces of molars to protect them from decay. These sealants help to prevent plaque and bacteria build-up in the cavities of the teeth.

06

Educating children and parents:

Providing information and guidance on oral hygiene, healthy eating and the importance of regular visits to the dentist.
